Important things to keep in mind:

 

The SOLAR SANITIZER works best when exposed directly to the sun between 10 am and 2 pm. Hours can be extended by manually reorienting the SOLAR SANITIZER towards the sun, thus extending its usefulness to around 5pm on sunny days.

 

When placing the SOLAR SANITIZER flat on a driveway of concrete, place any kind of barrier between the SANITIZER and the ground, to minimize loss of heat to the concrete. Use such things as a thick cloth (e.g., towel), book, clipboard, etc.

 

SOLAR SANITIZER performance is directly related to the brightness of the sun. Therefore it works best during clear days, and varies with variable cloudiness. The SOLAR SANITIZER will moderately warm contents even when overcast, but should not be used for sanitizing under such conditions.

In order to perform properly, the bag must be securely sealed to hold in the heat using the zipper closure. It is important to remove excess air by flattening with your hand while closing the bag.

 

For sanitizing, it is important to confirm that the heat strip has achieved the recognized kill temperatures as reported by the CDC. Generally, scientists agree that temperatures above 134-140 degrees are adequate to sanitize against various pathogens. But each situation is unique.
